Our History
Why Danbury FLYERS Elite?
Danbury Public School System eliminated middle school sports as part of the extra- curricular school offerings. The community created club sports to fill the sports programs void but offered every sport except track and field. At the urging of her son, Shaun and his football teammates Gail and a team of coaches stepped in to fill this void by creating the 1st Middle School Track and Field program in the city of Danbury. When parents yearned for a higher level of competition on a national stage, Williams parted ways with her current program after serving 4 yrs and as a founder and the Commissioner of the 1st Track and Field program and co-founded the Danbury Youth Track and Field Association (DYTFA).
With the support of Danbury High coaches Rob Murray and Nick Fraticelli, the Danbury FLYERS took flight. Wearing the city’s iconic Orange and Blue, we joined major organizations like the Western Connecticut Conference, AAU Connecticut, and USATF CT. What began as a summer program soon became a year-round offering, of Fall XC, Indoor, Outdoor Spring, and Summer seasons.
In 2016, we launched First Flight, a program for younger athletes, ages 5–8. In 2019, we officially became Danbury FLYERS Elite to better reflect our athletes’ talent and dedication.
Today, Danbury FLYERS Elite is proud to be one of the top youth track programs in the state and nation. We work with athletes of all backgrounds and skill levels, many starting with no experience and going on to win state and national medals.
But beyond medals, we focus on building confidence, discipline, and a love for movement that lasts a lifetime. Whether your child is new to running or a natural competitor, they’ll find their place here.
Danbury FLYERS Elite is where athletes discover their potential — and families join something special.
